Cougars Running Game scores 3 TDs to Beat Razorbacks 24-6
By: Kenosha Cougars - Richie Agpasa
6/27/10
On June 25th, 2010 the Kenosha Cougars went into Roosevelt Park in Racine, WI to face the Expansion Racine Razorbacks. Razorbacks, formerly known as the Racine Heat, and the Cougars are familiar with each other as they faced each other in last year's playoffs were the Cougars advanced in that game. No surprises for both teams as the Cougars came in with their stout Defense and Razorbacks with their big and fast backfield. Both teams were anxious to play as both teams are coming off of last week's storms that postponed their perspective games.
The game would start off with a little rusty coming from both teams as they both were able to move down the field but not being able to finish with a score. That would change as the Cougars Running game started to put a couple of longs runs together. The Cougars Star QB Dave Cajka (80 yards on 7 carries) would take a option right for 18 yards to within to the 5 yard line and Cougars Star Veteran Adrian Abbott was able to punch it in for the score making it 6-0. The Cougars would add onto their score on the next drive with Cougars QB Cajka cutting in and hitting paydirt for the score making it 12-0. On the other side of the ball, the Cougars Defense was holding the Razorbacks in check with Defensive stars LB Jason Holland (2 sacks) and DE Corey Williams (3 sacks) leading the way. It would be only until the end of the first half when big and bruising Razorbacks FB Ryan Brown would take a run over the middle 50 plus yards to the Cougars Redzone taking some defenders with him. Then on the ensuing series, Razorbacks QB/WR Aaron Hillard would find his receiver counterpart on a wheel route to the left making the score 12-6, leaving it that score at the half.
With the Razorbacks scoring at the end of the half, they were poised to make a comeback but the highly touted Cougars Defense had other plans. The Cougars Defense would continue to penetrate the Razorbacks' backfield and holding them scoreless in the second half. As for the Cougars Offense, the running game continued to shine as they moved the ball down the field. This led to an injury as Cougars QB Cajka ran for 10 yards, only to be hit hard by the Razorbacks tough Defense. Cougars leader QB Dave Cajka was able to get up, which was a good sign, but for further precautions, Cougars Star WR Mariano Rosales would take the rest of the snaps for the game. The offense would continue to put on the points as Cougars lightning quick RB Randy Hamm would score a rushing TD and QB/WR Rosales would zip a tight pass to DB/WR Keith Woodson for a passing score to finish the game with a score of 24-6.
It was a much needed win for the Kenosha Cougars after a humbling loss in their last game they played to the Lake County Cowboys 3 weeks ago. They will look to continue play well together as a team and get ready for the Lake County Desperados as they defend their home field next week. The Racine Razorbacks are still in the playoff hunt and will look to rebound next week against their crosstown rival, the Racine Gladiators. The game is being held as a special event that is played on the Fourth of July, which should be a classic in the making.
